Primary Eye Care
- LVP Eye Institute and PRASHO are working on a stakeholder analysis and a survey on ocular morbidity in populations in one district of Telangana
- This is a mixed methods study.
- The data collection instruments are being finalized currently.
- Field work will start in June 2024
- Two year project supported by LCIF
Inclusive Eye Services for Marginalized Communities Mid term Evaluation
- Sunderbans region of West Bengal comprised of a number of difficult-to-reach mangrove forests
- Boat and static clinics were evaluated
- One base hospital supports a series of Vision Centres
- Observations
- Each IVC covers 75,000 people and people travel 12-15 kms to reach the eye care facilities.
- Average footfalls of 25-30 per day at each IVC.
- 70% are female patients
- No teleconsultation facilities have been set up
- Only a few vision technicians stay at the village where IVC located
Oxford Brookes University
- Negotiating with Oxford Brookes University to offer joint skilling programs on public health, Infection Prevention and Control, Palliative Care, Primary Health Care
- Intend to offer both distance learning modules and in-person programs in India jointly.
- Also looking at possibility of providing educational progression pathway by hosting Certificate programs and induction programs in India for Oxford Brookes
Velux Submission
- Submitting an application to Velux this week
- The focus is on research capacity building
- Proposed to develop an Ophthalmic Research Network
- Titled STEER ICORE-NET
- One PhD and 4 multidisciplinary MSc programs proposed
- ICEH is the Collaborative Institution with Jacqui and Sally to play a crucial role in capacity building
