The Gudlavalleti family and Pragyaan Sustainable Health Outcomes (PRASHO) Foundation is pleased to announce the launch of the second year award of the Dr. Aashrai Sai Venkat Gudlavalleti Memorial Award in Neurological Sciences, an annual award established in memory of Dr. Aashrai Gudlavalleti. Dr. Aashrai was a consultant neurologist, celebrated, and most importantly, a loved neurologist in Ohio, USA who unfortunately passed away in March 2024. This award has been set up to honour his commitment to improving research in neurosciences research and care and his dedication to the betterment of the lives of elderly patients. Dr. Aashrai Gudlavalleti completed his high school from the Mother’s International School at New Delhi, MBBS from Kilpauk Medical College, Chennai, MD (Neurology) from SUNY Upstate, Syracuse and Fellowship from George Washington University, Washington.
This award will recognize one deserving young Indian neurologist/ neurological sciences researcher below the age of 45 years (on the date of the award announcement) each year who has contributed significantly to research in the field of neuroepidemiology or neuroinfectious diseases or neurological sciences. The Dr. Aashrai Gudlavalleti Memorial Award in Neurological Sciences aims to honour his legacy by promoting excellence and innovation in neurological research. It encourages young scholars to advance their research and contribute meaningfully to the understanding and treatment of neurological conditions in India. The award money can be used for presenting the findings of the awardee’s work at major international or national conferences or for further research in neurological sciences.
The PRASHO Foundation will administer the award, the costs of which will be paid by the Gudlavalleti family. The award recipient will be identified by a panel consisting of leading neurologists, researchers, and academics who will ensure that the awardee has demonstrated outstanding achievements and potential in the field.
The first recipient of the award was Dr Jonas Sundarkumar from the Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore for his groundbreaking work in neuroepidemiology and dementia research—particularly India’s first large-scale dementia study (CBR-SANSCOG). His work emphasizes cost-effective interventions and shaping public health policies to make neurological care more accessible.
“We are honoured to establish this award in memory of Dr. Aashrai Gudlavalleti, whose passion for neurology and dedication to advancing medical knowledge will continue to inspire future generations,” said Dr. GVS Murthy, President and Dr P. Visalakshi, a Director at PRASHO Foundation. The objective of this award, is to encourage young researchers to pursue innovative approaches to understanding neurological disorders and improving patient care.
The award will be bestowed on the 18th of February every year.
